High School Tech Fest 2022

About TechFest:

TechFest is a high school theatre arts event hosted by the Theatre Arts Department of Grossmont College, specifically tailored for the enrichment of high school students with an interest in technical theatre.
High school students are not required to have had any prior experience or training in technical theatre, only an interest in the field.

Interactive, participation-oriented workshops will be presented by Grossmont College Theatre Arts faculty and staff, special guests, and professionals working locally in the field of technical theatre.
This event is an excellent opportunity for high school students with an interest in technical theatre to learn new skills, meet students from other campuses with similar goals and interests, and network with professionals and college faculty with whom they may have future contact and/or share work and educational experiences.

For Students:

Workshops will be offered in the following areas of emphasis:
Stage Management, Lighting, Costumes, Sound Design, Set Construction, and

Promotions and Publicity.
In addition, all participants will receive an extensive tour of the theatre production facilities at Grossmont College.

The day will conclude with an opportunity for students to participate in an all-technician event where they will have a chance to learn skills and demonstrate how well they can reproduce what they’ve been taught.

Events and workshops are presented according to a set schedule so it is requested that those who wish to participate allow appropriate travel time in order to arrive by 7:45 am. The day concludes no later than 3:00 pm.
Lunch, snacks, and beverages will be supplied by the Grossmont College Theatre

Department.

Schedule:

8:00 -830 Registration
8:30-9:15 Theatre: Introduction Tech Talk 9:15-9:25 TechFest Teacher Time starts

Students break into job-alike groups: lights/sound, set, stage manager/publicity, costumes/make-up

9:25-10:40 Lab Work in Job-alike Groups 10:40-10:55 Break
10:55-12:15 Lab Work: Same Groups/New topic 12:15-1:15 Lunch-- provided by Grossmont College 1:15-2:45 All Tech Activity

2:45-3:00 Awards Ceremony/Closing Activity

Guidelines for Schools:

1. One student techie per specialization per school. 3 enrolled techs minimum
per school enrolled—6 techs maximum.
2. All techs are expected to uphold the highest behavioral standards of respect and self-responsibility.
3. Each school is responsible for supplying a credentialed person to supervise their techs at all times.
4. Each participant is required to wear close-toed shoes and clothes in which they can

move comfortably and safely.

First Come, First Served. Limit 10 schools.

Deadline for registration is September 8, 2022.

Cost:

Non-member fee: $50.00 per school
SDTEA Member fee: $20
*Each school MUST have a credentialed teacher on site the entire event*
